Students connect fractions, decimals, and emerging algebra through hands-on manipulatives and lively collaboration at classroom whiteboards, with Promethean Boards (Grades 4–5) and teacher iPads (Grade 6) enriching visual clarity. These experiences cultivate perseverance, precise communication, and readiness for the abstract reasoning to come.

In the middle grades, students refine their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through engagement with diverse and increasingly complex texts. Emphasis is placed on critical reading strategies, analyzing the author’s purpose and perspective, and supporting claims with textual evidence. Writing instruction focuses on argumentative, informative, and narrative modes.

Students in grades 4-5 deepen their comprehension and analysis of both literary and informational texts. They are introduced to text structures, authors’ craft, and increasingly complex vocabulary. Writing instruction expands to include narrative, opinion, and informative writing using evidence from texts. Grammar and conventions are taught in context, and students learn to plan, revise, and publish their writing.

The K–6 STEM program builds foundational skills in engineering design, coding, and robotics through hands-on, interdisciplinary challenges beginning with our youngest learners. Students develop creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities in a fun, engaging environment.

Students in Grades 4–6 deepen their understanding of scientific concepts through investigation, data analysis, and experimentation. Sustainability efforts expand to composting and soil creation for district greenhouses, and sixth graders raise trout in partnership with NJDEP Fish & Wildlife.

In the Social Studies 4–6 program, students deepen their understanding of state, national, and world history while building critical thinking skills through primary sources, geography, and civic literacy.

The Holmdel Township Public Schools world language program empowers students to become confident, culturally aware global citizens through engaging and immersive language learning experiences. From foundational vocabulary to meaningful communication, students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in languages that open doors to diverse cultures and communities.
